Ruth Roman is the youngest child born to Lithuanian and Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) & Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. After her father died in the role of a carnival barker at the age of a little girl She was required to support the family working both as a maid and server. Ruth went to school and was poor throughout Boston Massachusetts' tenement districts. However, she was only in school for two years before going on to pursue an acting profession. The path she chose was not without obstacles. When she was in New York, her first job involved posing stills in crime magazines. the theatre work that she longed for was not available. After that, she was a hat check girl at an evening club, before deciding to call her quits and relocating to Boston. She made the ends meet by working with her ushering duties throughout the day, and in the evening, she performed in the New England Repertory Company, her first regular acting gig. The study of drama helped her to graduate from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
